Secure Your Windows By Removing The Stored Network Password

You may have your credentials data (e.g. usernames and passwords) saved on your windows when you access a computer over networks. The credentials are actually stored files in your Windows.

It could become a threat if you think you have not save any credentials data (but actually you have) and you share your computer with others. This will let the others to have a chance to log on to the computer or system (e.g. Windows Live Messenger) over the network that you have visited before on behalf of you.

Therefore it is advisable to remove all your credentials data in your computer before you hand over your computer to your other people.

To remove the credentials data, go to Start > Run > Type control userpasswords2 and press Enter. User Account window will be opened. Click on the Advanced tab and click on Manage Password button.

Choose the credentials information that you don't want to be stored in the computer and click Remove. You can also backup and restore credentials data at the screen. Make sure you store the credentials at a secure place.

Microsoft Office 2010 Beta

The new Microsoft Office 2010 Beta is now available for download. You can download the Microsoft Office 201o beta and install at your computer to have a test drive on the new features in Microsoft Office 2010.

The programs included in Microsoft Office 2010 Beta are Word, PowerPoint, Outlook, Excel, OneNote, Access, Publisher, InfoPath, SharePoint Workspace and Communicator.

To install Microsoft Office 2010 Beta, you are recommended to uninstall any previous version of Microsoft Office. Your computer also need to have at least 3.5Gb free space for the installation.

Microsoft Office 2010 Beta is only available for Windows XP SP3 (32 bit), Windows Vista SP1 (32/64 bit), Windows Server 2003 R2 (32/64 bit), Windows Server 2008 SP2 (32/64 bit) and Windows 7 (32/64 bit).

How to Install Microsoft Office Document Imaging for Office 2007 in Windows Vista

MDI (Microsoft Document Imaging format) is a file format introduced by Microsoft. It is for storing raster images of scanned documents together with optional annotations or metadata which can include the text of the document, generated by OCR. Office 2007's installation, by default, doesn't install Microsoft Document Imaging Viewer.

To install Microsoft Office Document Imaging viewer:

Click on Start button to open the Control Panel window.
Double clicks on the Program and Features.
Select Microsoft Office XXX 2007 and click Change on the top (XXX may be Ultimate, Enterprise, Professional, Small Business, Home and Student and etc).
Select Add or Remove Features and click Continue.
Expand the Office Tools and Microsoft Office Document Imaging.
Click on the drop down list for Microsoft Office Document Imaging and make sure Run all from My Computer is checked.
Click Continue to apply the changes.

After the installation, a new virtual printer Microsoft Office Document Imaging Writer will be created and you will be able to open MDI files now.

Windows Vista Service Pack 2 is Ready for Download

Windows Vista Service Pack 2 is now ready for download. The service pack is for both Windows Vista and Windows Server 2008.

Some of the notable changes are:

Windows Server 2008 or Windows Vista with Service Pack 1 installed.

How to Check Whether Your Windows Vista Has Installed Service Pack 1

To check whether your Windows Vista has installed Service Pack 1, you will need to open the Window's System Information. Click Start button and right click on "Computer". Select "Properties" from the menu. You will see the words "Service Pack 1" under the "Windows Edition" section.

If you haven't installed Service Pack 1, you can do so by running a Windows Updates.

Windows 7 No Longer Beta

Microsoft latest Operating Systems, Windows 7 is now no longer beta version. It is now become the release candidate version. You can start download the release candidate version starting tomorrow (May 5, 2009) and will be available till June 30, 2009 with no limits on the number of downloads or product keys available.

Microsoft's Internet Explorer 8 (IE8) is now available for download. The new Internet Explorer 8 comes with some interesting features (and some of them, IMHO is borrowed from other browser).

Internet Explorer 8's Features

Accelerators

Accelerators allow you to perform your browsing task quickly without navigating to other website. For example, with the "Map with Live Maps" Accelerator in Internet Explorer 8, you can get an in-place view of a map displayed directly on the page. All you need to do is to highlight the text on a webpage, right click the highlighted text and select "Map with Live Maps". This feature is a little bit similar to the google chrome's "Search Google for 'keywors'". Instead, IE8 futher enhance this feature to browse for more specific purpose.

InPrivate Browsing

InPrivate browsing allows you to browse a website without saving your history in Internet Explorer. It prevent your browsing history, temporary Internet files, form data, cookies, and usernames and passwords from being retained by the browser, leaving no evidence of your browsing or search history. This feature is good when you browse websites out of you own PC (e.g. cybercafe) and don't want to leave sensitive information on the computer.

This feature is similar to the Google Chrome's "Incognito" feature.

Web Slices

Web slices is like a live feed but with more presentable manner. You can easily keep up with frequently updated sites directly from the new Favorites Bar. To use this feature, the website will need to be "Web Slices" enabled. It is also something similar to the Windows Vista's gadget.

Search suggestions

The instant search feature in Internet Explorer allow you to see a list of relevant results while you are typing. You can go right to the result without finish keying in the request.

SmartScreen Filter

Internet Explorer 8 helps protect you against inadvertent installation of malware, or malicious software which can compromise your data, privacy, and identity while also damaging your computer and valuable data, with the new SmartScreen Filter.

This feature is similar to the Google Chrome's "Safe browsing" where Google Chrome warns you if you're about to visit a suspected phishing, malware or otherwise unsafe website.

Improved taskbar and full-screen previews

In Windows 7 you can set the order in which the icons appear and they'll stay put. The new taskbar has a bigger preview thumbnails that allow you to see a full screen preview before switching to the window.

Jump Lists

Windows 7's jump lists is a handy way to quickly reach the files you have been working on. If you have another files you want to keep handy, just pin them to the jump list.

New ways to work with Windows

You can now change a window size by dragging it to some where. For example, dragging window's border to the top of the screento maximize the screen and dragging it away from the top of the screen to restore it to the original size. To make all windows transparent, just drag your mouse to the lower right corner of your desktop.
