ADVERTISEMENTS
Windows users can actually rename their files and let windows to renumber the files automatically without installing any third party software. However there is only one numbering format is provided: "Name (number). extension".
The trick is pretty simple. If you notice that every time you create a new file with a same filename for an existing file, Windows will help you to rename it another filename with number in bracket. The trick is almost the same. To rename files with auto-number:
- Select your files in the sequence you want. For example if you want to rename a.txt, c.txt, b.txt to name (1).txt, name (2).txt, name (3).txt then you must select a.txt, c.txt and b.txt in sequence (press Ctrl button and mouse click to select).
- Press F2 and you will be allowed to rename the first file. Rename it as Name (number). extension.
- Press Enter to apply.
... and Windows will help you to rename the rest files in sequence with numbers.
